Here I discuss PNTHN as being the face of a new age of rap groups, and their latest release, DEATH DIMENSION.
Historically in music, super groups have been looked at as spectacles—especially amongst hip-hop and rap fans. There’s something extremely thrilling about a group of unruly, and what may seem like an uncountable amount of members that are all putting their own touches and energy into their music as one entity. Throughout time, we’ve had rap groups from all over the east coast who’ve rocked the industry; such as The Wu-Tang Clan, The Diplomats, and Public Enemy. What I often wonder is, given the impact that—for instance-—a super rap group such as The Wu-Tang Clan has had the world; when was the last you’ve felt the effects of a group from this era that has made waves and has caused mass hysteria? I’ll tell you one thing, there’s a group already on the rise that is doing just that—and they don’t come from the east coast, they come from the South of Texas, and go by PNTHN: house of gods.
“Ho, it’s a shame you ain’t heard of us”- Kenny Casanova of PNTHN (“good ass halal“)
PNTHN, (pronounced “pantheon”) get its origins by way of San Marcos, TX. There are a total of 8 members in this group; all with their own distinct styles and roles. The ligaments that make up this massive body that is PNTHN, have so much raw energy and a story to tell of their humble beginnings, and demand for respect of the South with their latest album, DEATH DIMENSION. DEATH DIMENSION is 13 tracks long, with production credits from group members and producers, Gulfwey and Por Vida. This album is a personification of the roots and culture of Texas rap that runs very deep through the veins and into the heart of PNTHN; and that theme is embodied throughout the entire track list. From traditional chopped and screwed production and vocal renditions like on “deathbed” and “nopalitos”, to the blood-pumping rager tracks that are certain to be mosh-pit savvy like: “trapsody // flat swisha”, “blackland”, and “persona”; PNTHN gives listeners the full range of each members capabilities, and the overall style of this groups musical prowess.
I’ve had quite a few opportunities to catch this group live. In fact, PNTHN is the first rap group I’ve had the pleasure of seeing in person, and I was taken completely by surprise by what they had in store for their audience. I also moshed for the first time in my life at a PNTHN show last year. I owe this group for giving me the power and confidence to hurl myself into chaos amongst other raging fans. Their music drives the natural reaction out of you to want to jump around, and they highly encourage you to embrace and give forth positive energy and a healthy rage. This group has an impeccable stage presence and knows exactly how to interact with and work a crowd.
At their core, PNTHN is set to knock the wind out of you with zero remorse and will use the power and experiences of their Texas upbringings to do so. With so much to say, and a hell of a way to manifest their messages and energies in their music, DEATH DIMENSION gives you the package deal of how hard this super group from the south will thrash the industry once the world really catches wind of what the future of Texas rap, and rap itself has in store. PNTHN is set to be a goldmine; rich with ongoing opportunity and growing accolades that will lead this crew to the very top. The future of rap groups taking over is already on the horizon, and that very bright future is lead by PNTHN. I suggest you pay close attention.
