Charli XCX made her fourth stop on tour to Austin with support from Canadian rapper, Tommy Genesis. Throughout the concert, Charli nodded at the LGBTQ+ community and reminded everyone of the importance of their inclusivity.
Charli XCX kicked off her tour for new self-titled album, Charli, earlier this week, and is set to tour the USA, the U.K., and Europe. Last night, Tommy Genesis opened for Charli at Emo’s Austin. Starting promptly at 8pm, Tommy did an incredible job hyping up the eager, and highly fashionable crowd. Tommy herself wore a black, baggy long sleeve shirt with a sheer skirt, and a glimmering silver chain—her blonde hair, pulled back in a slick and very neat bun. Much to everyone’s surprise, Charli came out briefly to perform a track alongside Tommy; causing fans to roar and rush forward with excitement. The way these two women complimented each other on stage was overwhelming, and made the concert experience start off on a very high note.
At 9pm sharp, Charli graced the stage once again. The pop star’s hair was in a high pony, and her body looked absolutely stunning underneath the black puffer jacket and two piece Nike set she was wearing. The setlist Charli performed included a large chunk of her newer material, with a few deep cuts from prior works like “Track 10” from Pop 2, and her famous Icona Pop cover, “I Love It”. Between every few performances, Charli shouted out the LGBTQ+ community— whose members were in large attendance. Charli exclaimed her love for the community as she reminded everyone of the term ‘gay rights’. Everyone lived for the support and visibility for the community that the singer gave while on stage, and this made the overall atmosphere feel safe and free.

Charli XCX is very confident in who she is, and also very human. During her performance of “February 2017”, the singer forgot her lyrics mid-song and uttered the words: “blah blah blah”, with a chuckle. Also, in a humorous and honest moment with her fans—as per Charli’s request—she shares that her tampon string was hanging out of her bottoms. She jokes that she thought the string was out in her previous performance in Houston the night before, and that it was definitely out while on stage at Emo’s. That moment, along with the local dancers who represented the LGBTQ+ that Charli brought on stage, made for an iconic night for the community, allies, and all else in attendance.
