Tame Impala brings their second performance of Austin City Limits music festival with magic and wonder; giving fans what could be called an extremely memorable and rare experience.
Tame Impala is one of this generations most favorable psychedelic rock bands, and they hail from Perth, Australia. The bands’ frontman is singer, songwriter, and producer; Kevin Parker. You can find music on record from Tame Impala dating back to 2008, but the bands’ first major release was Lonerism in 2012. The most popular album amongst the fan base, though, would likely be Currents, the more pop-themed psychedelic rock release that has aged very well with time since it came out in 2015. Fans have been eagerly waiting for a new studio album from Tame Impala, but have had plenty opportunity to see the band live this year performing old and new songs. The last tour date for this exciting band was right here in Austin, TX during the cities’ famous Austin City Limits music festival. Austin is where Kevin Parker claims to be “the only place” he’d rather end their 2019 tour run.
After a long, chilly day; Tame Impala graced the ACL “Honda Stage” at 8:15pm. The opening visuals show colorful circles flashing on a large screen, as the full band walked to their designated positions on stage. Kevin picked up his guitar, prompted his fans, and immediately jumped into “Let It Happen”, one of the bands’ most popular songs. Throughout the set, other songs performed were older material such as “Apocalypse Dreams”, and newer material like the recent single, “Borderline”. The most reaction by fans came from tracks that were performed from Currents, like “The Less I Know The Better”, “Eventually” and “New Person, Same Old Mistakes”.
Aside from the songs that this band is mostly known for, Tame Impala has also been known to have some of the best lighting and visuals to be seen at a show in recent years. There are lasers that pierce through the air, shooting in every possible direction, and trippy camera effects and patterns that were displayed on the big screen behind the band. The placement of all the lighting equipment, from the lasers to the giant spaceship-like disc that floated and moved above the band, made for a masterful, precise and articulate viewing experience for all of the awestruck fans.
Phones held up to capture all of the beautiful moments looked like mosaic tiles in an art piece; each screen capturing different colors and scenes from all of the different transitions in the lights. It was an incredible sight to see with wide opened eyes. Tame Impala made sure their fans got them at their very best during their last appearance of 2019.
