FNGRFOOD SESSIONS: 9th Sage

Briyanna Wilson Avatar

9th Sage sat down with FNGR FOOD to talk to us about what new projects and ventures he’s been perusing since the start of the ongoing pandemic. As a DJ, event planner, and all around creative, Sage has been resourceful and resilient when it comes to making things work and finding a way to turn negatives into positives. In the following interview, Sage talks bringing his DJ sets on to Twitch, his new merchandise line, his partnership with musx, and what he’s been listening to lately, and more.

FF: Hi Sage! How are things going? What’s new for you?

Sage: Not much, just been taking things one day at a time like everyone else, and trying to find ways to still put my all into my passion with limited opportunity because of this pandemic.

FF: Explain to us a little bit about what you do? Passions, projects, and etc.

Sage: I’m a DJ, photographer, and multi-dimensional creative. I spread love, I build communities, I aim to inspire, and my passion is just a way for me to share myself with the world.

FF: You’ve been keeping so busy since we’ve been on lockdown. Explain to me a little how you as a DJ have been surviving during these times. I know you’re so used to being on the go and doing events.

Sage: I don’t even know, to be honest. Shout out to unemployment because I would probably be a lot worse off right now to keep it 2 Virgils. Nah, but to be real, Twitch became something I never knew I needed, and I finally stopped sleeping on myself and merch has been helping, as well as random donations. Shout out to everyone who has been in my corner.

“Twitch has surprisingly been something I never knew I needed. Crazy how something negative can manifest something positive.” -9th Sage

FF: You’ve pursued some new ventures. Tell us about some things you’ve started up since quarantine?

Sage: Twitch and merch. Twitch has surprisingly been something I never knew I needed. Crazy how something negative can manifest something positive. I’ve gotten more love and support from the community I’m building on there, than I have from people I know personally. Quarantine has helped me realize there is a whole world out here.

FF: Twitch seems to be a huge hub for DJ-ing and fests right now. Tell us about your experience with the platform.

Sage: It’s been very supportive, uplifting, and has connected dots for me that I had no idea would be connected. New friends, and new communities. Like I said before, I’ve gotten the most communal support I’ve ever gotten from the community I’m building on Twitch, and it has helped me get through some tough mental hiccups, so shout out to my Twitch family one time.

FF: You’ve really been on your merch game lately! Looks like you’ve been getting a lot of support. Tell us about some of the things you got up for sale.

Sage: Lavender and Sage candles, and Blonded Sage Head T-shirts which can be found at ninthsage.co

9th Sage has his hands in several pots right now; one being his new partnership with the music sharing app known as musx. As a DJ, this app is ideal for Sage to send out some of his favorite tracks, and receive recommendations from his friends. He explains a little about the app, what else he has planned for the future, and how he’s been feeling about the state of the world lately.

FF: So I hear you’re a featured Tastemaker on musx, tell us about musx and your partnership with them.

Sage: It’s a music sharing app that lets you follow people that fit what you like and discover music overall. It’s pretty cool. So far, so good.

FF: What else do you have planned going forward? Any new partnerships?

Sage: I would say, just keep an eye out. I have a lot I’m working on, but I don’t like to prematurely announce what I’m working on. I don’t want to jinx myself. Also, people steal ideas everyday, so I’m more quiet these days.

FF: How are you feeling about the way things are in our world right now, and how have you been managing it all?

Sage: It’s all heavy, and I don’t want to sit here and rant about it all because I’d just be preaching to the choir and regurgitating what we see everyday online for those of us fed up with it all. I do want to tell everyone to make sure you’re staying safe, and distanced. Also, KEEP EDUCATING, AND KEEP SPREADING THE IMPORTANCE OF BLACK LIVES!

FF: What’s been your go-to music lately? Anything you’ve been listening to that you absolutely stand by?

Sage: I’m always everywhere with it. I mostly listen to my own playlists, Twitch streams, and music on Soundcloud. This question is always hard because I’m always listening to a lot of music, but I’d say right now, I’ve been digesting a lot of Knxwledge.

FF: Have you been cooking? If so, what are some things you’ve made? Any favorite recipes you can share?

Sage: When I cook I usually make homemade ramen, baked chicken, pasta, some veggie meals, easy things that are still easy on my body.

FF: Anything else you’d like to mention?

Sage: BLACK LIVES MATTER.
